In our safe space, we provide a calm environment where women can relax, connect, and seek advice on various topics, while children enjoy supervised play in our child-friendly area. As part of the Victoria Community Centre, women can access additional services while their children are cared for. In our atelier, refugee women can join sewing courses & learn crochet or braiding, aiming to secure employment and acquire new skills. We welcome 40 women & 30 children daily, from over 35 nationalities.
Refugee women confront distinct challenges for social and economic integration, often leaving them worse-off than their male counterparts. Cultural norms assign them primary domestic roles, hindering employment or getting support from private organizations. Additionally, refugee women often have lower levels of education and limited opportunities to participate in public spheres, be it for religious, cultural, or gender-specific reasons. In humanitarian crises, gender disparities are exacerbated
Our solution is to create safe spaces tailored to refugee women, acknowledging their unique integration challenges. Our project enhances education, vocational training, and fosters financial independence. Community centers offer emergency aid, services, and support networks. In Athens, where independent connections are limited, these spaces are particularly vital for refugee women.
The project provides support to women and children without access to public services or support systems. Our center serves as a vital link for connecting individuals facing vulnerabilities to essential services, ensuring they don't slip through the cracks. Our overarching aim is to promote resilience and to support women in leading a self-determined life.
