Facilities will be provided on a rural school farm at Aliade, beginning with a model poultry unit that will serve as an Agro skills training center for students. AgroPaths Initiative will provide training to students and teachers on poultry management and other agro based enterprises as prescribed by school's curriculum. This is to equip the students with entrepreneurial and technical skills needed for self-employment to surmount the raising challenge of youth unemployment and food insecurity
Rural youths are the worst hit by Nigeria's high unemployment rate of about 14% which has led to an upsurge in poverty and social vices such as drug abuse. Although entrepreneurship and practical agro enterprise education is prescribed in schools to teach skills and enhance employability of students, poor funding of schools has limited their access to facilities for effective training especially in rural schools such as those in Aliade. School graduates are increasingly unproductive.
By building a model poultry farm at the Agro training center to be located at Mt St Michaels Secondary School Aliade, students from the school and those of other schools around the rural communities will benefit from ADI's ongoing agro training scheme and acquire poultry production skills that would enable then to Start-up and or manage small scale agro based production ventures successfully. This will make them self-reliant, employable and their vulnerability to social vices will be reduced.
An estimated 1000 students per year will gain agro based and entrepreneurial skills at the center through practical training. This will lead to self-reliance, job and wealth creation at community level. The food supply of the center will also contribute to improved nutrition and food security. Income from the center will be used to maintain, sustain and expand the training facility to offer diverse skills, engage more students and to cater for the study needs of some disadvantaged students.
