Depleting forests and stringent forest laws have increased dependency on agricuture of tribes in central India. There families depend on small holding and cursed to spend entire life in misery. Land correction , irrigation and power availability are way out, but needs investment. This project will bring Tribal families together to develop their land through Fruits plantations, Water sources and other common assets, Coupled with tech-dissemination, advocacy and institution building.
Goud, Uraon, Kanvar and hill korvas are poorest, resource-less and venerable tribal communities of Raigarh District. They lived on forests and whatever small landholding they encroached. Recently amend laws has recognized land rights through Van-Patta. But lands are unfit for normal farming. Minor millets and inferior pulses grown normally cannot meet ends. Therefore, Agriculture development initiative in these tribal areas is necessary for uplift-ment. This project is to takeup 500 such tribals
The project directly intervenes on land development, starting with land cutting, Soil-fill, laveling, contour line treatment and bunds (as per site recommendations) that check erosion and water logging. Fruit-Crops Plantations will be raised, and seasonal inter-crop of vegetables will be grown commercially on the same land. Water source, electricity, Fencing, and farm equipment will be Dove-tailed at community level and service will institutionalized by making their cooperative organisation.
Multistory farming is best way to utilize land resource, and 500 people with very small landholding will add there income substantially, by this successful model. Perennial trees of fruits and silvipastoral species will be planted in tribe's land, thereby reducing dependency on forest. Subsidiary activities and training will ensure climate resilient Technics in farming. Thereby project improves afforestation, and adapts community for climate change. Tribal youth migration will also stop.
