Singing to support each other

Singing can express emotions, and one can feel each other's support by singing together. The long-lost singing competition at the Mustard Seed Youth Home is finally held again! It let the children learn from the experience of organizing activities in the Youth Home and feel the game presence.

Good voice starts the singing

Before the start of the competition, every teenager worked hard to train his courage. They were nervous and expectant, hoping to win the title of champion singer for their Home. Whether it is a brisk and dynamic style or a lyrical and romantic style, the teenagers have their own abilities to show their best songs, and sometimes a surprising and unexpected style, which makes the judges and the children laugh again and again.

The jury composed of residential assistant teachers, strictly and conscientiously conducts scoring and commenting, and it makes the players on the stage even more nervous. The teachers and teenagers watching by the side continued to cheer for the teenagers on the stage, hoping they could sing bravely and give themself confidence!

Bravely stand on stage

After all, there will be winners and losers in the competition. The previous champion Jeremiah continued to win the singing competition. The second and third places Jack and Leon, who showed their humility and were praised. The teenagers also began to look forward to the next competition.

The Youth Home applauded each child participating in the competition and let them know that the purpose of the activity is to create an opportunity to show courage. Let the children learn from standing on the stage, even if there is no one to accompany them, they can support themselves to overcome fear by deep feeling of their own existence and self-confidence, just like in the future stage of life, they must be independent and brave to create excitement.

Accompanying children to happy learning and giving back

The Youth homes accompany and take care of children injured by their birth family or growth environment, be their friends, and help and guide them to regain their self-confidence; the singing contest allows the children to feel that they also can have happiness, and hope that in the future, the children like these donors who silently contribute to the Youth Home, could give back to the society.

"A happy future for my children, and hope that they can grow up safely." -This is the great hope of every parent.

The teachers in the Agape Children's Home, loving the children as their parents, also gave the children a wonderful summer vacation this year. Through outings and various activities, the children learned and grew in happiness, leaving unforgettable lifetime memories for them.

The first stop of the summer vacation, the Agape Children's Home participated the reopening of Lillian Dickson Conference Ground in Wanli. In addition to giving a singing performance, they also visited the Bible Cultural Park and knew more about Jewish culture through the guided tour. It was like a 4D experience of visiting Israel.

In the annual summer camp, different from the previous year, the older children in junior high and senior high students became team leaders leading the primary school students to receive training before the camp. Although the process was full of challenges, the children broke through their own limitations and learned empathy from caring for younger children, and cultivated a humble heart to serve others.

In addition to camp, English tutors are also arranged for children who are about to enter junior high school to strengthen their English skills.

In talent courses like inline skating, piano, tambourine, choirs, etc., hoping that the children’s interests and dreams can be inspired.

In addition, through self-reliance training courses, such as cooking meals and sharing from the workplace leaders; the extensive working experiences of them open up the children's plans and vision for the future. And the regular character education every week aims to cultivate children's ability to live happily, learn how to interact with others, improve their stress resilience and think positively.

Looking back at the various activities and courses arranged during the summer vacation, we hope to enrich their summer vacation, and also cultivate children's living abilities externally and internally.

Externally, the children can connect with the society smoothly, use their own advantages in future career, and become independent adults who can take care of themselves.

Internally, the children can motivate oneself to have integrity and caring characters, not to be afraid of hardships, persist in doing the right things, and give back to the society one day.

After more than 60 years, Agape Children’s Home has bred many small seeds along the way. Watching them overcome difficulties, say goodbye to the past, and grow up hard. Now they have their own family, but they still remember to return to this "Home" and sharing with their own children about the mission of Agape Children’s Home and pass on the spirit of kindness. The Mustard Seed Mission hopes that every child can have a new life and heart transformation, and allow more lives to fly smoothly in the sky in the future.

It had been drizzling for days, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, youngsters of the Mustard Seed Youth Home were kept indoor and felt like moldy human. Everyone can't wait to go out and get some fresh air. Fortunately, the sun just came out so brightly that teacher decided to arrange bike riding to bring youngsters out visiting Liyu Carp Lake.

Ahead of the trip, everybody was doing the safety check around the bike to prevent unwanted accident on the road. After the safety check was completed, the coach provided thorough briefing to the group. He asked each person to abide by the instructions and be mindful while riding the bike. Before taking off, everyone praised to the God for giving good weather and safe trip.

Youngsters complied with the guidelines and rode orderly. The group was divided into four small teams. Around the noon time, the crew arrived at Liyu Carp Lake. To most bikers, nothing was better than enjoying the delicious local food after a long ride. Youngsters bought some light meal and a few famous local delicacies, put them into a box before starting a picnic. Each individual selected his own beautiful spot, sitting down and enjoying the food. After lunch and before riding to the next stop, youngsters followed the instructions they learned at the Youth Home, that is, wash the lunch box, exercise the garbage separation, and clean up the surrounding areas.  By doing so, they just showed love and care to the earth, practiced the environmental protection behavior and ensured the whole landscape was undamaged.  As a result, the beautiful scenery and surroundings would get to be well preserved for the upcoming visitors to enjoy.

Following a full and wonderful meal, youngsters were cycling around the lake, to capture as much impressively last fine view as possible. They were very pleased of having such a great opportunity out for this trip. It has been a while since the last cycling was arranged. Youngsters hoped to have similar bike riding happened again soon. Everybody was looking forward to the next trip.

Dear Supports :

Thank you for your support on the Diversified Learning Project in 2019!

Children in Agape Children's Home are from dysfunctional families, they often lack self-confidence due to their own background or their history. Some even refuse to learn and it would cause them to put themselves into a vicious circle and couldn't well-develop in their childhood.

Children in Mustard Seed Youth Home some are from dysfunctional families and some are referred from the court or the government. They often lack self-confidence due to their own background or history. Besides, 2/3 of them were dropped out of school for years and they don't think learning is going to help them in the future. It would put them into a vicious circle and couldn't well-develop in their childhood. Some children are smart and willing to learn but they couldn't keep up the speed due to the years of dropping out of school. It would cause them away from learning.

The Diversified Learning Project creates a safe and positive learning space and environment for children to cultivate the attitude of learning and develop their self-esteem and self-confidence while learning.

Please Spend Some Times to Take a Look the Impact We have Made Together!

San-Yuan is a really nice guy and a warm-hearted teacher, and he is really good at knitting art activities. Through the activity he wants the kids to learn that "everything you do, you need to work hard and have patience." Children in Agape Children's Home will share what they've learned down below.

-

Teacher San Yuan's knitting class is fun, he teaches us how to make paper butterfly, and even uses grass to make birds and fish. In our free time, he also teaches us how to sing. If you never used grass to knit before, making a fish will be a challenge; yes, it's a big challenge for me, but I have decided to take this big mission, not only finish it but also make it into my own artwork. When people finished the little fish, the teacher challenges us to turn it into a big fish. The "developing" part is really complex and hard, but following the teacher step by step, we still made the impossible happen. When we finished and I look back, I learned that with enough patience and will, anything is possible, nothing can stop us! Teacher San Yuan said when next time he comes, he will prepare something even harder for us. Because of this, I'm super excited for the next knitting class to come.

Through this knitting activity, I have learned that doing anything, you need a lot of will and a lot of patience. The hard thing is you need to face it and learn, and once you have learned how to do it, it will become easy. Teacher San Yuan woke up really early to go to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and collect the best Ingredient that we needed for knitting. Through his action, I can really see that he really cares for us, treats us like his own family. I also learned from him that we should have more patience for first timers, a little bit of patience will make a big difference.

A year ago, we met Teacher San Yuan at a dinner party, he taught us how to make a paper 3D butterfly, and he promised that he will come back and teaches us more stuff.

I was excited to hear that he came back to us again.

Through Diversified Learning Project for Children, we aim to help children in Agape Children's Home and Mustard Seed Youth Home to explore more via learning!
