Petjes Resources After School program plans to purchase 50 computers and accessories to provide free computer education for children who live in the inner city of Johannesburg, also providing the children with free meals. This project aims to equip children with computer literacy at their early ages, to be ready for their later educational journey and empower them for future mental growth.
There are currently more than 30000 primary school going children at schools in the inner city of Johannesburg. Computer education still lags behind due to lack of adequate resources in these schools. Lack of computer literacy has a negative effect in later years when children enroll for tertiary education. This project will equip children with the knowledge that will be valuable in the future and there is potential to scale to similar organisations offering after school programs in Johannesburg
Helping children with the computer skills to become successful in life is at the core of Petjes Resource programs. The attainment of computer literacy will make homework assistance easy for each child in our program. Included in the program are life skills and sporting activities that will generate a complete informed child about academic growth. Participants will receive instructions on one-on-one with our dedicated youth volunteers. Parents are also engaged on the development of the child.
We believe that the use of technology enhances critical thinking and other developmental skills such as spatial knowledge and artistic capabilities. The project will educate more than 200 children per year allowing them to rise to acquire the necessary knowledge that will be applicable through-out their learning experience.
