IDEA4Africa has expanded into Uganda helping to increase economic development in the country. We are teaching young people to think entrepreneurially and take action on their ideas. We are working within camps, high schools and trade schools working directly with students and educators. This summer we will run our inaugural high school entrepreneurship summit. Be a part of history!
There are numerous and large refugee camps in Uganda. People who are fleeing the violence in the Congo and Somalia often wind up in Uganda which has an established system of camps to house these displaced people. There they are schooled in contracting work and sewing but have been missing learning the intricacies of running a business. IDEA4Africa has now teamed up with several refugee camps, in addition to numerous high schools and trade schools to teach Entrepreneurial Thinking.
There is a tremendous need for support of these young entrepreneurs in order to make their ventures profitable and sustainable. In Uganda, though many people have started their own ventures because of the lack of jobs, many do not survive for very long. 20% of Ugandans aged 18-64 have discontinued a business in the past year. What they are lacking is practical knowledge on how to run a business that will be sustainable and successful.
We will educate 100 High School age students from Ugandan High Schools and the Refugee Camps. Running our first week long Seminar in Uganda will have a significant impact on their ability to support themselves. Imagine being displaced from your home with only the things you can carry. Imagine having to think of a way to support yourself and your family in a foreign land. Having the opportunity to gain the tools that are needed to make a life for themselves is critical.
