This project is creating advocacy for the children with disabilities in Mpigi District,Uganda.Resentful attitudes, lack of essential scholastic materials, inadequate curriculum and absence of trained teachers have all conspired to frustrate access to education for children with disabilities. It will institutionalize a process for raising awareness, providing training and engaging with various stakeholders in an effort to form a unified local response to the issues of Children with disabilities
Uganda has broadly domesticated the rights of CwDs enshrined in both the CRC and CRPD. Some provisions have been included in the 1995 Constitution and in most of the laws and policies established to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities (PwDs) or of children. however, the laws and policies are not fully implemented and there is limited attention paid to the specific needs and rights of children with disabilities.
This project will advocate for the rights of children with disabilities and increase the general knowledge and awareness about the state of CwDs' human rights in Mpigi District-Uganda.The target group is composed of persons below 18 living in Mpigi Uganda who have physical, sensory, intellectual or psycho social disabilities resulting from interactions with environmental and attitudinal barriers
the rights of CwDs will be recognized by the Ugandan regulatory framework, and measures to realise them will be aligned with international conventions.
