Challenge

Devoid of concerted efforts by organized sectors & heavy workload over 1/4th reproductive age women of Nepal suffer from Uterine Prolapse- an agonizing condition when the cervix & uterus moves down from the normal anatomical position, & protrudes through the vaginal opening. The project uses combination of social & medical interventions to enhance the quality of life of 16000 rural women, who’d otherwise never seek medical help due to stigma, lack of awareness, money & treatment opportunities.

Solution

Preliminary: Baseline survey; Train female health workers Awareness: Prepare a public information strategy; Production/dissemination of messages (electronic/print formats) Medical Intervention: Distribute Ring Pessery; Organize surgical camps

Long-Term Impact

-Bring behavioral change in policy-makers & society -Promote Right to Access to Medical Treatment -Enhance quality of life of rural women -Empowerment of women -Reduce work burden of womenfolk -Emancipation from social taboos
