Summary

In thousands of cases, bone marrow transplantation from an unrelated donor is the only way to save the lives of patients, in particular children and adolescents suffering from leukemia and other deadly blood diseases. The main goal of the Karelian Registry is to increase the number of potential bone marrow donors. The funds raised under this project will enable us to add another 2,500 donors to the Registry. Our mission is to give hope for recovery from leukemia to patients from all over the wor

Challenge

Thousands of leukemia patients around the world are in need of donor bone marrow transplants. However, the chance of finding a completely matched donor for a particular patient is 1 in 1000, since the donor and the patient must have similar HLA genetic matching parameters. If a patient has a rare set of genes, then often it is not possible to find a donor in existing donor registries, and the patient, unfortunately, dies.

Solution

Our mission is to find compatible donors for every patient in need of transplantation of donor bone marrow cells. We create database of potential donors from among representatives of different ethnic groups and examine them according to international standards. Our donors have already saved the lives of patients from Argentina, Germany, Russia and other. 2,500 potential donors will be included in the Registry. Each of them is a new hope for recovery for patients from all over the world.

Long-Term Impact

By supporting the project, you are investing in the health of patients for 2 generations ahead! If today you donate $30, then in 3 months a 20-year-old donor will be examined for this money and included in the Registry database. She or he will be searchable for decades to come. Perhaps in tens of years, but perhaps in a few months, she will turn out to be compatible with a patient with leukemia, an adult or a child. Time is valuable, hurry up to help!
