Given an extremely high population of local children there is very little public space in Kayole for children to recreate or learn skills. This leaves them idling on the streets and getting into all sorts of troubles. Matata Acrobats hold afterschool & holiday programs for teaching children as young as 8 to perform acrobatic maneuvers. Human towers, flips, juggling, riding unicycles form part of the everyday sessions. The children learn valuable life skills also including teamwork & perseverance
A huge population (read 10s of 1000s) of children with very little public space to engage in constructive, positive recreation and very few rolemodels is a future community disaster waiting to happen. Youths as young as 12 years old are entering crime. Substance abuse is becoming more common also causing kids to lose interest in school and drop out at a very early life. This project betters the lives of children in Kayole by engaging them in safe, healthy positive ways with good mentorship.
By engaging children in safe energetic activities such as gymnastics and acrobatics, and offering quality mentorship from responsible local coaches, we are injecting the community with lifesaving countermeasures. Apart from learning the sport, the children learn perseverance, teamwork, trust, vision & creativity. It also builds self-esteem & social confidence in a fun & interactive sport. A number of local kids have already been nurtured in this way with excellent lasting results.
Kayole has a notorious reputation of criminal youth. By coaching & mentoring local children, we are already reducing the amount of idle mischievous children that are destroying their lives and those around by entering into criminal activities. This will see more children stay in school, socialize with quality friends and envision a positive future for themselves. The lessons learned through this social sport will build quality character & will prove invaluable tools in molding their future.
