The project aims at provision of WASH services to some primary and secondary schools of Kasulu town council, as a way of improving learning environments and reducing illness and deaths to both pupils and students of the targeted schools. The project will reach more than 12,000 young boys and girls in four primary and four secondary schools, who will direct benefit for clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities and services.
Education in Tanzania is in a crisis. The government announcement of 'fee-free education' in 2015 has caused an infrastructure crisis in learning centers. According to the assessment carried out by MANLUKU YDI at Kasulu town council primary and secondary schools in April 2019, 89% of the respondents said they lack clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene services. including Menstrual Hygiene services to adolescent girls pupils and students at their respective schools.
Provision of WASH services to more than 12,000 young pupils and students from 8 schools of Kasulu town cuncil benefiting clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities and services, as a result of the following activities; Rehabilitation of 8 water points/wells, construction of one latrine, 8 Garbage pits, establish and train 8 WatSan committees, 8 HP committees, Installation and maintenance of 16 Hand washing facilities and Distribution of menstrual hygiene kits to 1,000 young adolescent girls
1. Improved access to and use of sustainable sources of safe water in target schools, reaching 12,000 pupils and students. This will be achieved through construction/rehabilitation of water points and Sanitation facilities. 2. improved School management of water points and use of sustainable sanitation facilities promoted. 3. Enhanced practice of safe hygiene and sanitation, through increased Pupils/students' knowledge on safe hygiene & sanitation
