The village of Mingo'o is located deep in the forest; people lives as their ancestors for centuries: hunting and fishing for their daily needs. They are part of the autochton group known as "Pygmies.".They do not have access to schools, nor other services. In the past, they have been marginalized and exploited by their sedentary neighbors, without a means to defend their rights and interests. Illiterate and without speaking French or English, it is difficult for them to change the sitituation.
Throug putting in place a school in their community, we hope that we can help them begin the journey that will help them escape their marginalization. By the establishing their birth certificates ,in teaching literacy and French, and in realizing their basic right to education, they will be put on the educational path towards having the tools that they need to be empowered self-advocates in the future as citizen. Literacy and language skills improve their access to vital information on
If the proper conditions are met, the children can progress in school, achieving high school and university degrees. Our wish is that we can help them to attain an academic level sufficient to defend their rights themselves, rather than to stay vulnerable to the changes that will touch their lives as the world evolves. This empowerment depends firstly on their access to education at the basic level.
