7 out of 10 pupils in primary school can not read and comprehend an English story. This is partly why only 3 of every 10 children who start primary school finish their 7 years of schooling. Our goal is to get these children to fall in love with books so they can LEARN to READ and then READ to LEARN and consequently stay and complete school.

7 out of 10 pupils in primary school can not read and comprehend an English story. This is partly why only 3 of every 10 children do not finish their 7 years of primary school. Many point out a limited access to reading materials as a reason for this poor reading culture. In a country where, 52% of our population is children below 15, and mostly in primary school, this is a big challenge and an actual threat to national security and development.

We plan to take actual physical, beautifully illustrated and attractive books with stories children can related to across the country. Through this we shall be directly solving the scarcity of reading materials problem. These books will get the children's attention, as we have seen in our pilot, making them fall in love with books hence getting them on track to learn to read which will lead to reading to learn.

Long-Term Impact

This project will improve literacy and learning outcomes of children, directly impacting on school completion rates, which are very low. As children learn to read and read to learn, their grades in class will increase dramatically, increasing their chances to succeed and reducing on the risk on national security and Development as many of them will be able to graduate from college and get jobs that enable them to contribute to National transformation rather than being a burden.
