This program is designed to educate the community on the importance of having their pet microchipped and registered so that pets can quickly be reunited with their families. The program will provide free microchips, as well as collars and tags, to pet owners in Pflugerville.
Every day we see "lost dog" or "lost cat" postings on flyers or social media and so often these postings fail to connect the owner with their lost pet. At the same time, un-chipped dogs and cats are frequently brought to our shelter with no way of returning them to their owners. The majority of animals brought to the shelter have obviously been well cared for, indicating that there is a family missing their pet. These situations are heart breaking for all involved.
We want the opportunity to help members of our community avoid this pain. Our program would provide microchipping & registration as well as collars and tags. We will offer these services in lower-income or under-served neighborhoods through the use of mobile clinics, with multiple clinics scheduled over several weeks. These services will also be available during normal shelter hours for those who are not able to attend the mobile clinics.
Our first program will be the start of a perpetual service that would be available year round at the shelter. Mobile clinics will expand the availability before peak intake seasons. Our initial goal is to reach 250 animals.
