A GAME House in Beirut's youth to do sports

GAME Lebanon is using street sports as a vehicle for social change, empowering and inspiring youth to engage in their local communities. However there is a vast need for more public street sport facilities in Lebanon. The GAME House will be an innovative indoor street sport facility to enable children and youth to meet on equal terms through sports. On ground level, it will ensure that more children and youth will have access to do sports as well as creating a local based hub for the community.

Lebanon is positioned in a political perplexity in which youth have lost faith in the democratic process. Public institutions are met with mistrust and as a consequence the youth participation is low. Public spaces have made great impact on political and democratic development, recently emphasized in the Arab spring, and the youth is a great force that has to be engaged in order to secure a brighter democratic future.

The GAME House in Beirut will be an innovative space where youth can meet and do sports on a neutral ground. It will secure full access and inclusion as it will be free to any user. The GAME House will be run by the youth itself, many of them voluntarily, which creates a safe and encouraging environment for community work. It will furthermore make GAME Lebanon more sustainable and strengthen the local familiarity to the benefits of sports as the activities will be more frequent.

Long-Term Impact

The GAME House will activate around 10,000 youth from all of Beirut. Some will be daily or weekly users and other voluntary street sports instructors, called 'Playmakers', which are educated by GAME to facilitate trainings. As the key values of GAME is gender equality and democracy, these two will be promoted in any activities as GAME hopes to see an increase in the female political participation and more youth being involved in decision making in the future.
