We want to make this meeting as a conscience call against the violence in which women of the world live. During this festival the women of our community will have the opportunity to participate in poetry, arts, and healing workshops. With the help of more than 10 instructors, who visit us voluntarily from different parts of the country and south america, this meeting will be possible this March 2020.
During 2020, 60% of the femicides in the state happened at Istmo de Tehuantepec, which places our region as the most violent for women in Oaxaca. And in the state 63% of the 15-years-old girls have suffered violence of some kind. Living here as indigenous women is a double discrimination, domestic violence complaints don't proceed and we don't have safe places for healing.
Woman Shout International Festival was created by the Women Poets International Movement (WPIM) in Republica Dominicana since 2011. This year in Una Mano Para Oaxaca we want to celebrate for the first time this event in our communitary center in Asuncion Ixtaltepec, Oaxaca. Because we want to provide a safe place where women can heal and learn how to help other women through poetry, art, therapy and music.
At least 20 women of the region that work everyday as defenders of women's rights and 20 girls of the community will have the opportunity to learn new techniques, tools, and Zapoteca healing rituals. These selected participants will act as promoters, helping other women, and girls with their future. We will collaborate with teachers from Mexico, Brazil, and Chile with different subjects as art therapy, creative writing, photo embroidery, yoga, emotional mappings, poetry reading and theater.
