Onike is a charming young girl in Freetown, Sierra Leone. She struggles with a developmental disability that makes learning even more challenging. Unfortunately, her condition has not yet been appropriately diagnosed. She is not receiving the appropriate help that could make a world of difference in her development and education. This project will help ensure that Onike receives the attention and extra help that she needs to aid her community participation and educational progress.
Onike has impairments in physical, learning, language, and behavior areas. This is impacting her day-to-day functioning as well as her progression through school. Due to poverty, Onike is not receiving the care that she deserves to address her impairment. This project will cover the funds needed for a full diagnosis. She will also start receiving the extra support that she needs to progress developmentally and with her education.
This project will raise the funds to get Onike the developmental evaluation / developmental monitoring that she needs. This will appropriately determine her condition/stage and what she specifically needs assistance with. Funds will also provide Onike with the targeted support that she needs to grow developmentally. Early intervention will improve her ability to absorb information and learn new things, like motor skills, speech, and language development.
Onike will receive the extra support and help that she desperately needs. The skills she'll learn will allow her to achieve a level of independence she wouldn't have otherwise. Onike will stand a much better chance of living a longer, more fulfilling life free from abuse or exploitation. And, she will have the skills she needs to stay well and be an active part of her community.
