Many youths in Nigeria, especially those from low-income families are anxious about the rising youth unemployment. This summer we empowered 42 underprivileged youth with skills that will enable them to start micro businesses, become self-reliant and create job opportunities for other youth. This project will help them get the required resources, tools, and equipment to start their businesses.
The 42 promising youth who participated in our summer skills acquisition program and successfully graduated are unable to start their desired businesses due to lack of start-up resources, tools and equipment needed. Without access to these resources, they are at the risk of being hopeless and frustrated by the scarcity of job opportunities in Nigeria.
This project will provide underprivileged youth who have acquired skills, ranging from sewing and fashion design, hairdressing, barbering, makeup and gele tying, website and graphic design with basic start-up resources, tools, and equipment to generate regular income for themselves. The project restores their hope, minimizes their chance of being in the unemployed youth demography and helps them make an honest living for themselves and by extension their family.
The return on our investment in the empowerment of these youth is far-reaching extending beyond them to their families, society and to the nation. This will enable them to lead productive lives, increase their prospects for a prosperous future, create job opportunities for other youth, thereby reducing youth unemployment level in Nigeria.
