This Sun Salutation Challenge is a chance for yogis around the world to get involved in crowdfunding to raise funds and support for the Nourish Yoga project. Funds raised will contribute to bringing the gift of yoga to women from vulnerable African communities, by covering the costs of a specially curated yoga retreat that will bring critical self-care and healing skills such as mindfulness, breathing, and journalling to women suffering from trauma, abuse or overwhelm in rural South Africa.
Challenge: Young women that have just graduated from high school are often ill-equipped to deal with what the world has to offer them. Their changing bodies, their newfound responsibilities, and often the reality of the patriarchal society that they live in means that they have lots of challenges, and very little experience or support to handle these challenges. In addition being the victim of abuse, trauma, or early motherhood leaves women in need of self care, and support on how to be strong.
How can we support these women? Through raising funds (supporting the SUN SALUTATION CHALLENGE) for Ubuntu Women-Yoga Retreats which gifts young women, new mothers, graduated teens, the very real opportunity to learn skills & tools that they need to be their best self in the world. To enable self-development, confidence, spiritual growth, and emotional support. Our goal is to host one of these magical retreats monthly - (for 6 women) which enables 72 women to be empowered! Funding Target $15 330
To unlock experiences that are usually reserved for more wealthy/western societies, the idea of a 'retreat' and make this something that is locally accessible, breaking down the socio-cultural connotations and poverty stigma. The long-term goal is resilient and empowered women who have the 'tools' in their toolbox to handle the harsh reality of life as a women in impoverished communities a little better and with a little more serenity. A global yoga movement to support women in Africa with yoga.
