"Stronger Now" is an innovative pre-teen girls' self protection program. Adolescent girls from across the country tell us that they often feel unsafe, so this project is designed to increase girls' awareness of their surroundings and identify ways to respond when faced with violence. Through experiential learning and play-based activities to address gender-based violence, girls and women will recognize their own worth.
Across the world, girls are born into families where they are considered less valuable than their brothers. Because of this devaluation, girls experience so many types of violence and harassment, at times by the hands of those closest to them. In Myanmar, emotional and physical abuse of girls can be compounded by its wide social acceptance - a system which tells girls that shame is her best response. You can help to change this by supporting girls to recognize their own worth.
"Stronger Now" is a new short-program, designed for a younger group of girls aged 10-14. We are ready to launch! This project will increase girls' awareness of their surroundings and ways to respond when faced with violence. Adolescent girls from across the country tell us that they often feel unsafe. There are real risks - ongoing civil war, trafficking, street harassment - and perceptions and fears, all of which truly limit girls daily lives and personal potential.
This program is short and direct. Using experiential learning and play-based activities to address violence against girls and women. Around 200 girls from 5 communities will learn how to... have greater awareness of their surroundings, break the silence, de-escalate situations of conflict, distinguish between healthy and unhealthy relationships, mobilize their communities, and be pro-active in standing up to violence.
