DAKTARI has eight meerkats that we care for - Tiki, Colo, Katiya, Gasper, Madonna, and her three kids, Aramis, Athos, and Porthos. Meerkats are not native to South Africa and many of our meerkats are pets that were imported and then abandoned by their owners because they became aggressive. Unfortunately, this means that our meerkats are not able to be released. We need funding to feed and care for all eight of our meerkats for the next year!
Our meerkats require long-term care because we are unable to release them into the surrounding areas.
Donations are used for food for the meerkats and to continue to update their enclosure. Because meerkats are fierce diggers, we need to refill the enclosures and update them regularly to provide stimulation for the animals.
A positive and clean environment with healthy and cared-for animals serves to push our impact on the children, and consequently on the community. Likewise, through the education of the future generations of the area, we aim to make a lasting impact on the local wildlife.
