We are excited about the invitation to provide camps for orphaned children and provide a sense of normalcy during this crazy time. Our vetted staff all aspects of camp and this summer we will employ professional counselors and child psychologists. We realize we are not "out of the woods yet" regarding Covid19. We are communicating with orphanage directors and staff about how to best ensure safety for everyone involved.
Children in Ukrainian orphanages have been confined due to Covid19 related quarantine since early February. Local directors anticipate an easing of restrictions by June 22 and have invited Shade for Children to conduct Day Camps at two locations and a residential camp for orphaned and vulnerable children in July/August. Now more than ever we want to communicate love and acceptance and normalcy for these kids.
Shade for Children Summer Camps will return a sense of normalcy for the children who have been affected by the Covid19 Quarantine. Shade for Children will employ professional counselors as well as other camp workers who will lead a variety of activities and experiences for the children. Shade for Children will work with orphanage staff to ensure safe (and trackable) interactions with children. Volunteers are always vetted.
Long-term impact includes building and strengthening relationships with children and staff. Interactions with orphaned children will enable Shade for Children to better advocate for their adoption or foster care and will strengthen their "safety net" by providing them with community resources. Strengthening relationships with orphanage staff will improve and increase the degree of cooperation between the government and our NGO.
