When an American is sexually assaulted in a large foreign city like Madrid, who can they turn to? We have formed a volunteer team of bi-lingual Americans living in Madrid to help with sexual assault response on the ground. We are raising funds for emergency response bags that will include food & water for victims, an emergency phone, etc. The team in Madrid will assist with needs on the ground in collaboration with our case managers.
Americans in Madrid that experience sexual assault while on business, leisure travel or study abroad may not speak Spanish nor understand their medical, legal, or law enforcement options available. They don't have to be traumatized and alone. We have a team of bi-lingual American volunteers in Madrid to help victims on the ground in coordination with our case managers on the phone. These volunteers will provide an informed, compassionate and culturally relevant response to victims.
American sexual assault victims in Madrid will be met by a bi-lingual American volunteer to be with them side by side while working with one of our case managers on the phone.
According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 65 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be 39,000 Americans raped in foreign countries annually. From the sexual assault victims that have contacted us in various foreign countries, they are extremely grateful for our help and assistance when no one else would or could provide the services we provide to them.
