Send Wilkenson to 5th Grade!

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)
Vetted

Summary

Wilkenson's mother died before the earthquake, and his father died of cholera in 2010. He was left living on the streets until a friend of his family brought him to an orphanage. When he arrived, Wilkenson had never been to school before. Because of donors like you, we've been able to fund a year of school for Wilkenson in 2013. With your help, we'll send him to the 5th grade in 2014! Wilkenson loves to go to school - and he's thriving! He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

Challenge

School in Haiti is not free, and if a family cannot pay, their children simply do not attend. Lack of education locks these children, and their own future families, into a cycle of poverty. Ensuring access to school not only improves children's lives, but strengthens Haitian communities in the long-term.

Solution

Wilkenson has lived his whole life in poverty and, without an education, he'll be unlikely to escape the poverty he was born into. Your donations will make the difference between Wilkenson staying in school and finding a road out of poverty or staying trapped in a life of insecurity. We'll use your donation to pay Wilkenson's school fees, provide books, school supplies, and extra support if he needs it. The education he'll receive will be life changing.

Long-Term Impact

Access to education for children from families who do not have the means to send their children to school means that those children will have the skills they need to find stable jobs and escape the poverty of their parents.
