Final Report

Water filters are making a huge difference
Water filters are making a huge difference

We just finished training staff of three day care centers on how to improve water and hygiene conditions. Our project was initially planned to benefit 18 day care centers, but due to the fact that we only raised $440 (instead of the planned $4,700), we had to reduce the goals of the project. Thanks to sharing some resources (transport, training materials, etc.) with our implementing partner, SOS Bolivia, we managed to involve three day care centers. Field staff of the SODIS Foundation trained teaching staff at these day care centers on how to improve hygiene, water filters were installed and users were trained on how to use and maintain them properly (see picture below).

As you may be aware, safe drinking water and hand washing with soap are two of the most efficient measures to reduce diarrhea and other diseases. Thus, with these simple interventions, we were able to make a difference in the lives of 20 children between 3 and 5 years of age, because we help them to prevent these diseases, and with fewer diarrhea their physical and mental development will also improve. And last but not least, drinking safe water is a pleasure - and a human right. Therefore, we will launch similar micro-projects again in the near future in order to benefit additional day care centers.

Thank you very much for your support. We appreciate that so many people supported this initiative and we will keep working hard to bring simple solutions for saving lives to as many people as possible.

Thankfully,

Matthias Saladin
