Students Begin School with New Uniforms and Shoes

By Sylvester Renner | Project Leader

Thank you for the uniforms and shoes.
Thank you for the uniforms and shoes.

Dear Project Supporters,

Because of YOU, our students returned to school properly dressed with smiles on their faces.

School reopened on the 4th of January. The kids were excited to be back in school after three weeks of Christmas Break. This is the start of a new academic year that will last until mid-July.

The names of the students in the photos are Susan, Aminata, Mariatu, Aisha, Kadiatu and Hannah (L-R). They expressed their appreciation for the new uniforms and shoes they received. See the handmade sign they are holding in the photos, which says "Thank you for providing us with new uniforms and shoes."

It is always a joy for the children to go to school in a new academic year in new uniforms. The uniforms were sown by the tailoring department of Develop Africa Empowerment Training Center (DAETI). Each child received a pair of shoes and two sets of school uniforms.

According to J-PAL, "Giving a uniform reduces school absenteeism by 6.4 percentage points (43 percent) from a base of 15 percent school absenteeism. The effect is 3.4 percentage points larger for students who did not have a uniform at the baseline. This is a major reduction in absenteeism from a baseline school attendance level of 85 percent." ~ The Impact of Distributing School Uniforms on Children's Education in Kenya

Thank you so much for your continued support. YOU are helping our students to stay in school and complete their education.

Best Regards,

Develop Africa team

Happy to be dressed properly for school.
