SEI is proud to partner with the Liberia Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund (LEADER Fund), and Sustainable Development International (SDI) and its CEO, Isaac Vah Tukpah, to bring solar lights to poor communities in Liberia that lack reliable electricity. Without light at night, students cannot continue their studies and their education suffers. Just one solar light will provide enough light for up to four children to study. 1000 lights can brighten the lives and futures of up to 4000 children.
Lack of light for studying because of an unreliable electrical grid. Without light in the evening, children cannot do their homework or continue their studies. This has a direct adverse impact on their ability to be anything but subsistence herders and farmers or unskilled manual laborers.
SEI provides solar lights to students and their families. These lights are not dependent on an unreliable on non-existent electrical grid. They will provide clean, safe light at night without the fire danger and unhealthful fumes that result from the use kerosene lanterns and candles.
Education is the path to a brighter future. In Liberia, the national language is English. This is a European language and it is not spoken in the villages. It must be learned in school. But once learned as part of a basic education, the lives of these children will be significantly improved.
