The sanitary pad incinerator will help to address a big issue related to MHM today: Proper disposal of Sanitary napkins. After the success of sanitary napkin distribution and awareness raising in schools in last project, We now would distribute low cost locally produced incinerators in schools. This would help to burn 100-150 sanitary napkins at one time in the most environment friendly way. This would help to minimize environment pollution as well as promote awareness of menstrual hygiene too.
Menstrual hygiene management has been a burning yet alarming issue in present context. The communities where women were bound with social restrictions and taboo to hide menstruation topic, have now started opening up. The awareness of Sanitary napkins usage and benefits have been slowly rising. However, with the rise in usage of sanitary napkins, the risk of environment pollution have become higher. As sanitary pads take over 500 years to decompose, its safe disposal is a matter of concern.
This project will address this problem in a very low-cost method. Incinerators made of Clay would be provided to various schools. These incinerators are locally produced and the most environment friendly way to dispose the used napkins which can burn upto 100 napkins at a time.. Incinerators (similar to picture) will be distributed and a club of student and teachers will be formed to ensure sanitary napkins have been burnt in time and locals will be encouraged to make others on their own,
This is a small step towards larger change in terms of Menstrual hygiene practices. Girls who carry used sanitary napkins home or miss schools or still use cloth pieces will be directly benefitted. Along with this, the awareness for environment protection as well as reproductive health will go hand in hand. Society will be aware regarding menstrual needs with responsibility towards environment. This will enhance confidence among women, develop entrepreneurship and help in environment protection.
