Mayor Potencial is partnering with Cinco Books to provide 50 children in shelters with books, toys, and sandwiches. Since the Hurricanes hit Honduras there are thousands of shelters throughout the country. The conditions are dire. Most families in the shelter lost everything. Kids are struggling to cope with the devastation and this small pilot project will provide them with hope for a better future and know that we care about them. Our volunteers will read the book to them.
The COVID pandemic led to school closures and challenged learning for the children in Honduras. The floods from Hurricanes Eta and Iota further impacted their learning and play. Mayor Potencial is partnering with Cinco Books to provide 50 children in shelters with books, toys, and sandwiches. Our volunteers will read the book to the children so that they can enjoy that with their meal.
Cinco Books is donating the books, and Mayor Potencial is providing the toys and sandwiches to the children in shelter. The cost is $16 per child ($930 includes service fees). Each donor will sponsor a child and receive photos as well as information on the child they are sponsoring.
The project will help children get ready for when schools reopen and help them learn to read by third grade - a major indicator of future success.
