Sylvia is all Martha has left after leaving her husband who abused her for 30 years, 15 of those overseas. Martha just could not take any more abuse and found the courage to leave even at an older age. Martha is currently staying with friends in Switzerland while she is waiting for her social security to come through. Meanwhile, Martha needs to get food, a carrier and some vaccinations for Sylvia in preparation for their return home to the USA in January.
Domestic violence victims are often forced to leave their pets behind when they flee violent homes. Leaving Sylvia behind would be devastating to Martha. After being abused for 30 years, Martha is an older woman and while very brave, is also fragile. She must start her life over in the USA and since she never had children, Sylvia is like her baby.
Martha and Sylvia will be able to return to the USA together. Martha will restart her life over with Sylvia by her side. So difficult to do at Martha's age but she is determined.
This project will reduce animal abuse and help families thrive when rebuilding a healthy life away from domestic violence.
