Victoria moved to Ireland with her daughter Madelyn and her American husband. Her husband was emotionally & psychologically abusive but said things would be better in Ireland with his new job. The first few months in Ireland were fine, but then her husband began the abuse again. When Victoria's husband hit her and pushed Madelyn, Victoria fled with Madelyn and went into shelter. Victoria and Madelyn need airline tickets to get home to safety in the USA where they will live with Victoria's mother
It is not just foreign men that abuse American women and children. American couples also move overseas and live as expatriates. The added isolation, lack of support network and dependency on the abuser can add to the abuser's power and control. Often the abuse escalates overseas and the victims need to flee back home to the USA. Victoria and Madelyn are such victims and we are glad that we are able to help support their efforts to live their lives free of abuse.
Victoria will be able to get Madelyn back home safely to the USA and will be able to live with Victoria's mother. Victoria plans to divorce her husband, get a job, and keep herself and Madelyn safe from abuse.Victoria is lucky that she has a safe place to go to and that her brother, a police officer, rents the basement of Victoria's mother's house, adding an extra layer of safety and protection.
Each year we provide battered American women and children with information and services necessary to enable them to live their lives without violence. Since 2001 we have helped over 3000 women plus their children free themselves from abuse. Many of them require danger to safety airline flights back home to the USA.
