After 18 months of school closed because of Covid-19 Pandemic, the children and teenagers of the favela Vila Prudente face a huge challenge : back to focus in a class and to learning with discipline. Another important problem is the lack of confidence and self-esteem deeply rooted in the teenagers and young adults related to their image of "favelado"/ being from the favela. This lack of self confidence has a strong impact on their life project and the pursue of their studies.
Learning how to play a musical instruments requires concentration, listening and repeting efforts, skills that are required at school too. With this project, the 130 children of Arca will train these useful skills in an amusing way and with the pleasure to eventully achieve to perform in front of public. Moreover, discovering about the afro-Brazilian musical culture and getting to know on how Brazilian music has influenced the world will help them to be proud of themselves and of their heritage
Since 2001, Arca contributes to building a better future for children and youths growing in Vila Prudente's favela. Educational and vocational programs led by Arca reinforce the community's cohesion and allow its children to unlock their potential through artistic, sportive and linguistic activities. Professional training and psychological support give young adults the tools to access the labour market with increased self-esteem and a sense of their own value.
