Challenge

During the recent difficult economic times in America, youth unemployment has skyrocketed. Young people who do not finish high school in our nation's capital are even more likely to face prolonged joblessness. For minority students, the dropout rate is above 50% in some schools. Without a reason to stay in class, without real world learning that is relevant a student's interests, this problem will only persist.

Solution

NFTE's BizCamps are two-week, intensive programs that support motivated young entrepreneurs as they create their own business ventures. 25 students are selected who have completed the basic NFTE program during the school year. Helped by a certified NFTE teacher, these students will strengthen their entrepreneurial ventures with the support of volunteers who lend their guidance with business development and financial advice. Funds go towards curriculum materials and the costs of the camp.

Long-Term Impact

By working to keep at-risk students engaged in their school work, NFTE spurs its participants to graduate high school and dare to dream of a brighter future. Whether they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or start their own business, NFTE instills an entrepreneurial mindset in young people so they can plan for success. Since 1987 NFTE has worked with almost 500,000 students across the U.S. and around the world.
