International Day of the Girl is October 11. Join us in celebrating the power of girls by giving. Your gift will be used where needed most, to help create sustainable change and address the root causes of poverty and inequality. Donations can support programs, innovation, and infrastructure required to deliver our programs to girls and children worldwide, in areas such as protection, education, health, sanitation, disaster relief and economic empowerment.
Girls all around the world are facing closed doors. And they've been stuck behind them for too long. More than 130 million girls around the world are still not in school. 12 million girls marry before the age of 18 each year - almost one every 2 seconds. Child poverty rates are highest among girls. 99% of sex trafficking victims are female. COVID-19 has only exacerbated all of these issues. We cannot let girls' voices get lost in the chaos of COVID-19.
Plan has been leading the global movement around this day ever since 2011 when we asked the United Nations to make it official. Every year, with the help of our supporters and partners, we bring a global focus to girls' rights. This year, Plan International USA is committed to raising $10,000 to help girls push through barriers to unlock their full power and potential. Plan International is active in over 75 countries and these funds can reach more than 50,000 communities across the world.
Girls and young women today are facing doors closed, one after the other, on a global scale. By releasing the power within girls and inspiring a nation to invest in more opportunities for them, we support a better future and a world of possibility for girls everywhere. A single open door can change the trajectory of her life. By providing girls equal opportunities and giving her the freedom to unlock her potential, we can advance: her mind, her hopes, her imagination, her future.
