Helping communities earn sustainable livelihoods
Helping communities earn sustainable livelihoods

Thank you for supporting our project to Implement Sustainable Waste Management in Chi Phat, Cambodia. Unfortunately we were not able to raise the $1,500 we needed to implement a Zero Waste Strategy at Wildlife Alliance's Community-Based Ecotourism project in Chi Phat. However, you gift will go towards our main project to Empower Cambodian Communities to Protect Forests.

Our Community Agriculture Development Program helps mitigate hunger and poverty in rural Cambodia by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities to former poachers and slash and burn farmers. And our Community-Based Ecotourism project partners with the community of Chi Phat to develop ecotourism jobs for local people in order to provide long-term incentives to protect the surrounding forests.

By directly addressing the underlying causes of forest destruction and by promoting programs that generate income for poor, rural communities, illegal forest activities have significantly diminished and community members are benefiting. The increased income allows children to attend schools; community members have access to community funds and health clinics; and there is a growing small-business sector. People now realize they have a stake in the protection of their natural resources.

This project continues to expand its efforts, and work with marginalized communities in the Southern Cardamoms to help lift them out of poverty while protecting the surrounding forest. Thank you for you generous contribution. You can continue to support their efforts by making a gift to our main project, Empower Cambodian Communities to Protect Forests. To learn about our latest project, visit Help Save Civets from the Cruel Coffee Trade. The increasing demand for Kopi Luwak, the most expensive coffee in the world, is driving the illegal and inhumane civet trade. These animals are almost all wild caught and now disappearing from the forest. Click here to learn more and help save civets from this appalling trade.
