Seasonal Hostel will enable regular schooling of 30 children who belong to families of migrant Brick Kiln workers of Tindwari Block of Banda district, Uttar Pradesh. This Six-month hostel facility will ensure that children don't miss their regular schooling & don't get engaged as child labor. The Hostel will have a Hostel Management Committee and it will run in Village Community Centre or in a spare room of the local school. There will be a separate facility for girls with the female caretaker.
Banda district has been under recurrent drought and this has led to high seasonal migration of families under distress, mainly to brick kilns. About 30 children would be seasonally migrating from most of villages. If we take state-wide view, nearly two Lakh children would be migrating to Brick Kilns. Demonstration of successful management and usefulness of Seasonal Hostel to suggest education department for making a provision for this. More sustained effort is required in this regard.
In the last three years, about 60 children were provided the facility of Seasonal Hostel and Supplementary education. It resulted in their regularly attending schools and enhanced learning levels. If there is public provisioning of Seasonal Hostels, all such migrating children will get a second home to complete their Compulsory education. Parents will also not have to worry about the safety and wellbeing of their children.
LOKMITRA will demonstrate the Utility of these Hostels through running them in few villages of Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, India. This will lead to public provisioning of Seasonal Hostels and with the additional support of charity organizations, it will be ensured that more than two Lakh children stop being child labor and realize their Right to Education.
