Grace is 15 and very intelligent. She grew up in a city but moved to a small village when her father lost his job. She speaks English and Zulu (her home languages) but in her new area they only speak Sepedi, which she never learned. It is the school's policy that you must pass Sepedi to pass your grade. Now she is learning something that will have no role in her future. With your help so she can attend a great school, with fantastic possibilities. You can change this amazing girl's life!
Not only the school but also Grace's new surroundings are influencing her. She lives in an area with uneducated people, a high teenage pregnancy rate and a lot of violence, alcohol & drug abuse. This could lead to be a disruptive factor for her future. I see this great girl wasting time on the wrong subjects in school, not stimulated to step up her game and not given enough challenges. Getting her into another school, will encourage her to become a role model for her community.
At Southern Cross School, English will be her first language and she will be stimulated to develop herself to the fullest. There are a lot of after school activities she can participate in. She loves debating and doing research, but her current school doesn't even have computers. She is a natural leader, a talent that needs guidance, but with the right stimulation she can use it to help her community in the future. By attending this school she will have the same opportunities like you and I had.
It will change this girl's life! She will have all the opportunities in the world to become whatever she wants, but the impact will be far greater then this one girl. She loves being the centre of attention, educating others, talking in public; she would actually make a change. By getting Grace into this wonderful school you give her the opportunity to become a role model and she would be great at it! It won't only help her, her family and friends but her whole community to get one step further.
