Two out of three of the 110 million children who do not attend school are girls. Girls unfortunately grow up to make two-thirds of the world's 875 million illiterate adults. The costs of uniforms, school supplies, books and school-related charges make it nearly impossible for girls in Sierra Leone to stay in school. This project will help to ensure that Christiana advances her career by providing her with a scholarship. This will cover all of her school-related expenses for 1 academic year.
Families with limited funds to educate their children focus on sending their boys to school. Educating girls is proven to positively impact the entire nation. The International Commission on Financing Global Education Opportunity (which reports to the United Nations Secretary-General) stated in a new report that especially for girls, education unlock unlocks huge health benefits, cuts child and maternal deaths and lifts millions out of poverty and into jobs.
Funds from this project will help Christiana, a star pupil, continue her education and eventually become a Certified Accountant - her desired future profession. Your support will help provide all she needs to be successful in school and ensure that she completes her education. Christiana shows great promise and is a mentor and example to younger girls. Project funds will cover all school expenses including books, a laptop, and a smart phone.
Healthy, well educated and emancipated women are an excellent foundation for a new and free society. Your support will help Christiana to complete her education, become independent and self-sufficient. Also, in her chosen future career as a Certified Accountant, she will be contributing to national development.
