Dear friends,

Thank you again for your support in helping us to make improvements to the homes of three families involved with The Mariposa DR Foundation. Many people ask the question, "why do you invest resources into improving homes if your mission is to educate and empower girls?". There are a few reasons why we do this work. Providing some incentives for girls' families keeps them engaged and motivated to make sure that their girls attend programs regularly. When families, neighbors and community members experience immediate benefits from an organization for girls, it elevates the status of girls everywhere, making their education and safety of the utmost importance to everyone. At Mariposa we take a holistic approach to improving the lives of girls so that they are better equipped to acheive their maximum potential. A child cannot learn if their home is crowded, flooded and falling down. Just making a few simple home improvements brings hope, pride and dignity to a suffering family. If we can remove just a few barriers and make it easier for girls to attend school and Mariposa programs, we will get better results.

A few years ago we helped build a home for a struggling family. They were living in deplorable conditions, plagued by disease and hopelessness and in dire need of help. We worked with the family and some volunteers to build their new home and it transformed the family. All of the children began attending school regularly, the female head of household became motivated to start a small business and all of the family members made it a priority to make sure that the girls never missed a Mariposa activities. Fast forward a few years and they are one of the most active families we have in the program with five girls never missing a day!

We are still working hard to raise enough funds to make improvements to the homes of three families in need - a slow but important fundraising process. Amazing things can happen when you just put in a little bit extra to help improve the home life of families. These things are only possible because of thoughtful, generous people like you and we thank you for your support.

With gratitude,

The girls, families and everyone at The Mariposa DR Foundation
