Summary

Kutullo is 22 and loves nature. He joined the Eco-Club last year because he didn't know what to do after Matric. Thanks to Daktari he received a bursary at the SA Wildlife College and obtained his Field Ranger Diploma. He did practical work at a Reptile Park and was offered an internship in a nature reserve as a guide for 3 months. He now has to pass final exams to be a Professional Field Guide. After passing he could apply for paid work. He needs funds to pay for these exams and to buy books.

Challenge

Kutullo lives in Limpopo Province, one of the poorest areas in South Africa, unemployment is very high because there is a lack of education and there are very little opportunities for young people. Fortunately, thanks to the wonderful landscapes and very rich nature, tourism is still one of the most dynamic sectors in the region. Although Kutullo has a love and passion for conservation, he cannot afford the high school fees to gain the qualifications he needs to find a job.

Solution

Limpopo is also sadly touched by poaching. Kutullo can make a positive change to his surroundings and also his own life with a little financial support. He has already done a lot to prepare his future and proved that he wants to work hard, but he just has a few more exams remaining which will enable him to qualify as a Professional Field Guide. He could easily apply for his dream job, support his family and continue to educate others about the importance of nature conservation in South Africa.

Long-Term Impact

Not only will this change Kutullo's life forever, it will enable him to provide for his family and young daughter, giving them financial security and a better future. In his dream job as a Professional Field Guide, Kutullo will also help to give back to his heritage and encourage nature conservation within South Africa. He already inspires other young underprivileged children from his school and village and he will continue to set a good example for the next generation of South Africa.
