This project will provide three fuel-efficient, improved biomass cooking stoves - to replace the rudimentary stoves that are currently used at the dream Home. The stoves that will be purchased are 40% more fuel efficient than the traditional stoves that are available for sale in Sierra Leone. Using these new stoves reduce the carbon emissions / footprint of the home. The new stoves will also reduce air pollution. They also use less charcoal and will reduce expenditure.
According to the World Health Organization, exposure to biomass smoke is a major health risk, particularly in developing countries. The stoves in use at the Dream Home Kitchen are not environmentally-friendly, causing air pollution. The smoke is hazardous to the health of the cooks. Because the stoves are fuel-inefficient, we are spending more on charcoal than we should be spending. Because of this inefficiency, it takes longer to prepare meals.
This project will help solve the problem of fuel wastage through the purchase of new, advanced fuel-efficient stoves. These stoves have a smaller carbon footprint and will consume 40% less fuel. The increased cooking efficiency will help us focus more of our resources to other essentials such as schooling, health care and nutrition. The new stoves also significantly reduce smoke in the kitchen through a more efficient combustion process. The new stoves will cut cooking time into half.
This will save us hundreds of dollars a year in expenditure on coal. The exposure of the cooks to pollution from smoke will also be significantly reduced. The cooking environment will be safer - resulting in a reduced risk of burns. Overall, this will provide a much safer and cleaner cooking environment
