Education will be the route to helping these children out of poverty in a poor overcrowded community of Jodhpur where the families are labourers and rag-pickers. Sambhali Trust will provide staff to teach Literacy, English and Maths, together with a focus on Health and Hygiene as well as encouraging the whole community of 300 children to attend school.
This poor community of Jodhpur has 300 children, only 50 of whom go to school; the rest work as rag-pickers to help their families or are at home. Each family has between 3-10 children; the fathers are mostly labourers and the women at home or collecting garbage to sell. By providing teachers to make sure the 70 children in the Centre are all literate and receiving a basic education, this will help to improve the futures of these children, as well as their wider community.
Sambhali Trust will be able to provide staff and volunteers to teach Hindi, English and Maths and provide educational workshops to 70 children in the Centre. They will encourage good health and hygiene practices and encourage all children to attend school. Staff can also provide discussion forums for their wider community on the value of education, women's and children's health, and nutrition.
By helping to ensure that all the 70 children are literate and receive an education, it will increase their chances to obtain good employment in the future, thereby improving their own lives and those of their families. By including the wider community and providing discussion forums we aim to encourage all 300 children to attend school and provide education and support to the families themselves.
