This project will accelerate the re-opening of Imi Oughlad primary school, a rural school found in the Imlil Valley of the High Atlas Mountains. The school was close to the epicentre of the earthquake which struck Morocco in September 2023. It was badly damaged and reconstruction is now underway. Our aim is to make sure classrooms are well-equipped with new furniture and educational materials so that face to face learning can be reinstated as soon as the rebuild is complete.
In the High Atlas region of Morocco, many homes, community facilities and schools are at various stages of reconstruction following the earthquake. EBF has been on the ground helping to restore infrastructure. In villages such as Imi Oughlad, many young children are not able to attend lessons in a temporary classroom simply because the journey is too far for them. This interruption to learning can have long-lasting effects on their education, increasing drop-out rates from school in the future.
Funds raised through this project will purchase desks, chairs, blackboards, education materials and other essential school equipment so that more than 150 children in the village of Imi Oughlad can return to classroom learning. It supports both the pupils and teaching staff, creating schools that offer a safe and bright learning environment for all.
We believe that children and young people everywhere deserve the best education. Our involvement in the project will help to improve and enhance schools provision post-disaster so that more pupils in the High Atlas Mountains have access to a stimulating, varied and quality education, helping to break the cycle of poverty and improve life chances. With your support, we can provide this together.
