Until the time EEESMA can open safely for in-person classes, when Covid-19 subsides, some electronic equipment is needed to support virtual school lessons for the children in their homes. Please help a little with the purchase of inexpensive smartphones and data plans (internet is not available in most rural communities) to allow the teachers and the students to communicate in sign language with each other. With adapted technology deaf children will be able to continue their learning.
The start of the new school year brings the challenge of delivering classes to students in their homes. The classes must be visual, allowing the children to see their teachers communicating to them in Mexican Sign Language and allowing the children to ask questions and communicate back in sign language. A computer screen is the best way to accomplish long distance learning, however many homes in rural areas around San Miguel de Allende do not have access to internet service.
With the purchase of inexpensive smartphones with data plans, each primary school student can rely on their own device to participate in classes at home. The data plans purchased will allow the children to access Whatsapp to visually communicate with their teacher and with each other. New on-line course material available for purchase will aid the teachers in developing better visual lessons which will be transmitted along with the necessary sign language translation.
Educating the Deaf and teaching them and their families to communicate in sign language will help raise awareness, enlighten families and educate their communities about the true abilities of deaf people. Educating deaf students enables them to contribute to their families financially, not only will this benefit them and their families but also the community as a whole. With the goal to enroll 50 children at EEESMA, over 500 persons will be positively affected,
