Children find it difficult to learn in crowded classrooms. Unfortunately, this is what many kids have to endure at the primary school in Calaba Town, Freetown. The kids are seated very close to each other - 3 of them in some benches/desks - as you can see from the photo. In this environment, learning is far from ideal. We can change this by helping to finish a new classroom block. The additional classrooms will relieve congestion and enhance learning.
Overcrowded classrooms are not conducive to optimal learning. When there are too many students in one room, the teacher often is not able to have one-on-one time with the students that need help. Additionally, overcrowding increases classroom discipline issues. Average and below-average students will struggle to advance in an overcrowded classroom. More students in a class translate to more Teacher stress.
This project will help complete the construction of a classroom block with 3 classrooms. Students will be reorganized into classes with fewer students. Additional classroom space will be a definite solution to overcrowding. Funds will help cover the cost of building materials - nails, zinc sheets, cement bricks/blocks, steel doors, steel windows, wooden doors, workmanship, etc. Funds will also cover the purchase of new desks and chairs.
This project will help provide quality educational opportunities for more youths so that they can rise above poverty and become better decision-makers. The principal economic advantage of this education project is that it will produce people who are capable of making a greater contribution to the national economy. These future leaders' incremental earnings represent the added social output generated by investment in their education.
