Classrooms for Earthquake Survivors Like Ising

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)
Classrooms for Earthquake Survivors Like Ising

Summary

Ising is 6 and he's a survivor of two Nepal earthquakes. Ising is the youngest of 7 children and lives in the village of Kalangsa in the district of Sindhupalchok. Ising's school was destroyed in the first earthquake and Ising and his classmates now don't have anywhere to attend school and receive an education. This threatens their future by denying them an education. But with your help, we'll provide kids like Ising with a temporary classroom to get them back in school as quickly as possible.

Challenge

Nepal has been devastated by two earthquakes in less than three weeks. Over 36,000 classrooms were destroyed or heavily damaged by the earthquakes and more than 1 million children, including Ising, now don't have anywhere to attend school. This is causing further harm to children like Ising by denying them an education. This threatens their futures by locking them into a cycle of poverty.

Solution

Your donations will be used to provide temporary classrooms for children like Ising. To date we have been providing temporary classrooms consisting of robust military style tents. However, we're now building even more durable classrooms using materials such as bamboo and galvanised roofing tin.

Long-Term Impact

Your donations will give kids like Ising an education and help them escape poverty when they're older. Kalangsa is over three hours from Kathmandu and its more rural location means that kids like Ising are poorer, and more neglected, than those in the capital. By allowing us to provide a temporary classroom for them, you'll ensure these kids not only recover from the earthquakes, but also build stronger futures in the long-term.
