The National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC) held its 9th Annual National Arab American Service Day on Saturday, May 11th in over a dozen major cities across the country. Some states fielded multiple projects. Michigan had volunteer crews working in Detroit and Flint, as did New York in New York City and its western city of Lackawanna. Florida fielded service projects in Orlando and Miami, and California in San Francisco and Anaheim. Other participating cities included Atlanta GA, Chicago IL, Boston MA, Philadelphia PA, Houston TX, and Washington DC. Under the motto, ‘Serving Communities, Connecting People’, roughly 2,000 Arab-Americans and others volunteered their time as part of the National Arab American Service Day.

In Detroit, NNAAC partnered with Motor City Blightbusters and The 313 Project to do a clean up and restoration of the Old Redford Neighborhood. Hosting the largest project in the country, more than 350 volunteers (including several TGI members), spent their afternoon cleaning up the old police precinct, demolishing abandoned homes, building garden beds, and preparing the community garden for planting.

We want to thank all our donors who gave on GlobalGiving during our March fundraising challenge! You helped make this event a great success!
