We were able to help Angie and her baby Zuma escape the Middle East and get her into shelter in the USA. They can stay in shelter until the middle of January. Angie has accessed services and hoped to get into a transitional housing program. The housing program had 42 applicants and only 5 spaces available. Angie was not selected. We need to raise the funds for Angie to get into her own apartment to keep her and Zuma safe.
Angie fled with Zuma with nothing but their American passports, the clothes on their back and Zuma's diaper bag. The shelter has been wonderful but she can only stay 30 days. Angie is on Temporary Aid For Needy Families, TANF, foodstamps and free childcare for three months. Unfortunately, she doesn't have any family that can help. She just needs help getting a small apartment for her and Zuma to live in while she finds a job.
Angie and Zuma will be in their own apartment, safe and sound, far away from the abuse she experienced in the Middle East.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
