Project #13024

A Year of Kindergarten for Medjna

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)

This project will provide a year of kindergarten for Medjina. At just three years old Medjina has already lost her home and been abandoned after her grandparents were unable to care for her. Now she lives at the Hands Together to Defend the Children Orphanage in Haiti. She's shy at times, but funny at others - like when this photo was taken! A quality education is the key to ensuring she escapes the poverty of her family, and with your help that's exactly what we'll give her!

As an orphan, Medjna is among the most vulnerable of Haitian children. There are no free schools available in Port au Prince, so the orphanage must employ its own teachers and run its own school. Lack of education locks kids like Medjna into a cycle of poverty. Ensuring access to school not only improves children's lives, but strengthens Haitian communities in the long-term.

Medjna has lived her whole life in poverty. She needs a quality education to have a secure future. Your donations will give her that education and set her on the road to a brighter tomorrow.

Long-Term Impact

Access to education will give Medjna the skills she needs to find a stable job and escape poverty when she's older.
