Ninos de Guatemala self-sustainably provides quality education to over 500 students. Due to the poverty in Guatemala, however, our students may show up to school without a proper meal. This effects their ability to focus in class and absorb the education that will help them break out of the cycle of poverty. Currently, we provide a small snack for the children each day, but through this project, our hope is to allocate funds to provide more nourishing food to each child everyday.
Since over 50% of the Guatemalan population live under the national poverty line, it is our goal to provide the children with nourishment during the school day. Often, our students come to school on an empty stomach which effects their focus in school and their overall health. We believe that if the students can receive a wholesome snack at school, they will have a greater desire to learn and the capacity to grow with us while focusing on their studies instead of their stomachs.
With our current budget, we are only able to provide a small snack for the students. This snack, however, is not enough to provide nourishment throughout the day. Your donations will enable us to increase the amount of sustenance we give the children as well as the nutritional value each snack holds. Our hope is to not only offer more wholesome food, but also to increase parental education on the value of nutritional meals in their children's lives.
There is a direct link between nutritional status and the mental capacity of school-aged kids. With the provision of more nourishing snacks, students can continue learning throughout the day with their stomachs full enough to focus on the quality education and tools given to them. Through all aspects of education, NDG has the hopes of breaking the vicious cycle of poverty to allow their students and future generations of Guatemalans to have increased opportunities in education and careers.
Every microproject is intended to use the donations it receives in accordance with its stated description; however, it is important to provide project leaders with the flexibility to maximize the potential benefit from the donations they receive. This means that your donation may be used as a part of the main project that supports this microproject, specifically Break The Cycle Of Poverty Through Education. In this event, the project leader is required to post an update to the microproject detailing the results and reasons behind this change.
If you or any other donor is unhappy with the way their funds have been used, he or she can reallocate their donation using the GlobalGiving guarantee.
